Ted Dewan has been drawing since age two (on the wallpaper because it felt great under the ball-point pen) but been professional since age 16 when he illustrated his first published book. Since moving to London from Boston USA in 1988 to follow a Scottish sweetheart, he has created over 20 award-winning books and illustrated still more for other writers, both for children and adults. He holds a degree in Engineering from Brown University where he was also an organ scholar and student of electronic music, followed by five years teaching physics and musical direction at Milton Academy in Boston, USA. His science background informs the large-scale exhibition pieces he designs and builds for museums and public spaces as well as his unique brand of road design safety campaigning under the nom-de-rue "Roadwitch". As a writer, developer, and designer for the BBC Bing Bunny animated series, he looks forward to the adaptation of the Bing Bunny books having the same effect on families and their pre-schoolers (as well as some teenagers apparently) that the original books had, first published by David Fickling Books, now reissued by HarperCollins. Now a dual US/UK citizen, he lives in Oxford with his wife, author/ illustrator Helen Cooper, their daughter, Pandora, and their menagerie of mechanical 'pets' and taxidermy, working most of the time in the writer's shed formerly owned by Philip Pullman, although it has been 'exorcised' of its mighty daemons.
Mr Dewan is not good at ball sports, cuisine, tax returns, and suffering fools.
